Our 2013 White House Gift Shop's official HONORING MILITARY SERVICES annual ornament honors the men and women of Air Force One and the United States Air Force for service to the President and America. The Air Force One is the 1st of a permanent new series; thus, is a chance to begin a new 3-D Holiday and Christmas ornament and model collection that commemorates icons of Military Service as well as in future years key moments in American military history.
Each year, we will create a new ornament for this series. Next year's ornament will be a diorama-like commemorative of a key moment in the history of the United States Army, the most complex and sophisticated ornament in the 70 year history of the White House Gift Shop, Est. 1946. This and all future ornaments in this series are made only in America by the makers of the official White House annual ornament, also available in the White House Gift Shop, online. We are the creators, originators, and only official source for this new White House Gift Shop's official ornament collection and have not authorized or licensed any other entity to make or sell our ornaments.
Notably, this year’s Air Force One commemorative ornament is the first true 3-Dimensional ornament in the history of all White House Official Annual Collections -- a notable feature for serious collectors. By design, the handmade Air Force One is masterfully handcrafted in the manner of now highly collectible and heirloom tin toys. Instead of tin, of course, we chose premium 24KT gold plated brass with airbrushed enamels for this year's ornaments, costly design requirements that add meaning and value to your piece.
We especially wanted the Air Force One to be a classic heirloom piece for generations to come and took inspiration from American toy companies up to the end of the 1950s when cheaper plastic replaced the beautiful metal plate collectibles of the 1800s through the 1950s. This piece pays homage, as well, to early American tinplate toy makers as well as employing centuries-old handmade construction methods.
Much more than an ornament, the new White House Gift Shop's 3-Dimensional pieces in this, the Honoring Military Services Annual Collection as well as in our Architectural Collection and next year in our 22+ year White House Gift Shop, Est. 1946 Holiday Ornament Collection -- will all feature full 3-D designs, centuries-old handmade methods with fusion of enhanced technologies, advancing design to successively higher levels of intricacy and sophistication and much more -- all designed to make these pieces the world standard for ornament excellence and powerful collection pieces for you -- which, of course, is our foremost goal in all we do.
