The Queen's Bedroom

On the second floor of the White House is a room named for its many royal guests — The Queen's Bedroom with a view of the North Lawn. Guests at the White House who have stayed in the Queen's Bedroom include Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Queen Sonja of Norway, and Queen Sofía of Spain. Winston Churchill stayed in the room while visiting Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman. Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt's daughter, Anna Roosevelt, moved into the room in 1944. Jacqueline Kennedy greatly admired the room and in 1961 considered taking it for herself. Furnished in Federal style, the bed is said to have belonged to Andrew Jackson and was first used in the Lincoln Bedroom. The armchair, bed handing as well as drapery silks are Scalamandré. Period art and prints decorate the room. In the sitting room area are a full-size sofa, chair, writing desk, and armoire. The Queen's Bedroom was known as the Rose Room between 1902 and 1963.
