The Portico on the north side of the White House was added in 1820 during the administration of President Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. Visiting Heads-of-State from around the world arrive at this entrance to the White House. The Dignitaries are greeted by the President and First Lady before attending State Dinners that are held in their honor.

After visitors have toured the interior of the White House, they exit through the north doorway of the North Portico.
