** THE ART OF GILDING IS A PROCESS OF APPLYING THIN SHEETS OF PURE GOLD TO WOOD OR METAL AND HAMMERING IT INTO THE FOUNDATION, UPON WHICH ELBORATE DESIGNS ARE USUALLY CREATED. Gilding has been around for thousands of years and is thought to have originated in Egypt and continues today to enhance the value and viewing appearance of whatever the object is. Rome used gilding on a wide scale, in ceilings, furniture, walls, art frames, all to generate a luxurious environment where desired or when the art commanded such laborious artistry.

Today, gilding continues, although not used as extensively. The gilding of this Still Life by A Dupont, is Period Standard in the early 19th Century, for Classical works such as this one.

This wonderful piece of art was donated to us by a Retired Colonel who needed to downsize. It comes with it, the memories of many years enjoyed by our beloved veteran friend. Now, this original work can grace another's life with enjoyment and appreciation for the detail in this fine piece.
