Coin #17 honors the historic meeting on April 26th, 2023 between President Joseph R. Biden and President Soon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea. The two presidents met in Washington to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-ROK Alliance and to affirm their mutual commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and the combined defense stance under the ROK-U.S. Mutual Defense Treaty.


For over 70 years this Alliance has expanded its focus on achieving a secure and brighter future for the American and Korean people. Their mission over the years has been to jointly increased global cooperation, regional engagement, and to create unbreakable bilateral ties.


President Yoon and President Biden reiterated their common goal of the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. Protecting and defending universal human rights, rule of law, and freedom, the United States and the ROK have a commitment to provide future generations with a solid foundation upon which to build prosperity and security.
