The 2013 Blair House ornament honors past and present service to the President by the men and women of the WHITE HOUSE POLICE, EST. 1922 -- now the Uniformed Division of the United States Secret Service.

Established in 1922 as the White House Police Force, this organization was fully integrated into the Secret Service in 1930. With more than 1,300 officers today, the Uniformed Division is responsible for security at the White House Complex; the vice president's residence; the Department of the Treasury (as part of the White House Complex); and foreign diplomatic missions in the Washington, D.C., area.

Blair House, since 1826, is the official state guest house for the President of the United States.

The Blair House ornament depicts the year 1950 at Christmastime when President Harry S. Truman resided at Blair House and features a White House Police Officer standing guard.

The Blair House ornament also honors the ultimate sacrifice of Officer Leslie William Coffelt who, a heroic officer of the White House Police Force, who was killed while defending President Truman from an assassination attempt at Blair House.

Of note, the White House Gift Shop, Est. 1946 was created by permanent order of President H. S. Truman with the mission of helping officers and their spouses in great need consequent of valorous duty. For seventy years, this tradition continues as well as new missions to help American children, our greatest National treasure, caught in the web of extreme poverty.
